Bologna / 30 April - 1 May 2022
FACILITATORS: Chiara Zompa & Ester Braga
The workshop will weave a journey through different exercises, eventually flowing into the free play. Focusing on reawakening awareness upon stored unnecessary tensions and dysfunctional patterns of reactions, we will gradually move beyond the field of mere physicality to embrace all aspects of the being. Only when able to recognise how much tension we accumulate in our system (physical, mental, emotional..), by learning how to release it, we can transform the tension into real power. "Stop doing" allows the body to re-function organically and efficiently, while the mind starts interfering less and less at each step we take.
The partner in this practice is the best mirror and allows us to playfully stretch the comfort zone. We gradually explore exercises and tools for the confrontation which, through the physical experience, we understand being towards ourselves in the first place. The moments of free-play become opportunities to access a never-ending flow of possibilities, responding intuitively with open mind and available body, crafting together an unpredictable interplay between confrontation & collaboration.

Main Topics:

falling as a state of being
gravity practice
non-resistance quality
preserving structural integrity
connection, with or without the physical contact
work with and through fears
confrontation & collaboration
play as inherent fundamental quality

I have been exploring my body through movement for my whole life, trying a variety of physical practices. Contemporary dance, flying low & passing through, yoga, bmc, contact improvisation, and since the past 5 years liquid body & play-fight are those practices who mostly shaped and are shaping the way I move and discover myself through the physical expression and interaction with others. My latest consistent training into play-fight practice by Bruno Caverna gave me the possibility to open up myself to contact improvisation with a new state of mind (and body) which allows me to explore, within the frame of contact, but with a greater freedom cultivated through the play-fight training. For this reason I have been extremely curious to explore this fine line between the two approaches, in my body first. I am highly inspired to see how certain principles in the moment of the improvisation can work harmoniously together, empowering the dance from inside out, or can also take completely different directions. Since two years I am taking part in the Play-Fight Facilitator Program guided by Bruno Caverna; a mind-blowing journey. This path gives me the ground to facilitate play-fight and in this particular case is offering some tools to enrich my persoal study that moves in between the two practices.
Chiara Zompa
I discovered contemporary dance in 2007 and I first felt in love with floor work and release techniques, which are still strong pilars in my approach to movement and dance. Following my desire to explore the potential of physical expression and communication, I've been feeding my research and training mainly with the practice of capoeira angola, acrobatics, contact improvisation, physical theatre, axis syllabus, while I enjoy so much folk dances and singing . In 2016 my artistical journey brought me to Portugal, where I took part in FAICC, advanced formation in choreography and creation and I worked in several projects as performer and choreographer.
Since 2014 I finds in Formless Arts' practices a huge basin where to discover and learn about how to meet through dance in a playful, careful and confrontational way, as a gateway to the neverending path of self-knowledge. Together with Ester, I'm responsable for the organization of Play-Fight events in Italy and I am investing in sharing and facilitating Play-Fight moved by the wish to provide a safe space for people to listen, connect and express themselves.
