FREEDIVING MEETS PLAY-FIGHT

- A dialogue on courage, softness and Innerness on land and in water -
With Andreas Peper and Bruno Caverna

25 September - 3 October, Dahab
"Recently Bruno Caverna met Andreas Peper in Dahab to learn about Freediving. The encounter was utterly inspiring and triggered many revelations as the philosophies behind their practices were finely in tune. For Bruno to learn from someone like Andreas is an extremely rare and precious occasion. They decided to offer this joint event to share their practices, perspectives and the potency of this encounter
with anyone familiar with ocean swimming."

What We Will Do

This is a workshop for anyone who has had good experiences in the water, also natural waters and who is interested to explore further, starting from there. It is a workshop about a holistc way to swim, one that is not defined by technique or style and more than open for full immersion and free dives. If you have swam down a few meters before, without feeling discomfort or pressure in your ears, maybe even equalized this pressure consciously, you are well prepared. In case you are interested but not clear on the this requirement, please get in touch.
What We Will Do:
Along with the exploration of the underwaterworld comes a shift in attitude while being in the water. We will together make an effort to notice this shift and follow it deeper, as It can reveal everthing you need to know, to learn to move utterly free in and under water.
Once introduced we can start to work even more clearly, through reestablishing the use of our senses: the way we use our eyes, how we feel our body and movements andcreate judgment from there, how we equalize our ears, how orientation is all different in an environment that creates "surroundedness" and how movement and expectations are linked and create each other.
All this and more becomes the very basis of our possibilities in and under water. And we will grow a practical understanding of how this basis is not ones swimming techniques, but a holistic integrationof intent, observing consciousness, movement and perception.
How very practical this basis is, will become clear through the use of specific exercises that are directly related to functions of feeling and movement in the water.
Bit by bit we will learn to move and feel more gentle, graceful and free and like this follow the example of seals and turtles who like us find their "ways" in the water without gills and fishfins..
Since growing up Andreas had a longing for finding out how it would be to swim in a clear sea, with a "real" diving mask. This led Andreas to find out in 2002 in Croatia that being under water was more challenging than he thought. But the intrigue stayed and 2006 Andreas found that being under and moving inside was much easier, and even more promising than envisioned.
The promise of this other way to swim to reveal and show important aspects of life was kept eversince and led Andreas to explore his idea of Freediving – to swim freely in natural, beautiful, clear, sometimes deep waters, for years to come, mostly in Dahab and Elba Island.
Andreas Peper
Since 2013 Andreas is conducting individual classes for people interested to explore theirselves, their ways to move in water, rework ideas borrowed from land, also ideas of swimming and freediving that are not suitable for someone that wishes to swim and dive freely. (His classes have been attended by people of all level of experience from students with a general fear of swimming and immersion to elite Freedivers.)
Building on the experience and understanding gained in this personal work Andreas has developed a methodology and body of holistic exercises that helps to translate the subtleness of learning to be in the water and connect to this vast liquid around you, into a group practise.

Play-Fight - diving into non-resistance
By Bruno Caverna
Workshop
Topics
Bruno Caverna
Fees
A self-empowering physical practice that weaves together cooperative qualities of any type of partner dance with highly refined confrontational principles from capoeira and internal martial arts. The exploration goes beyond the fringes of mere physicality. The reciprocal mirroring through the physical drills leads the practice into a deep space of self-discovery, for acknowledging and revealing myriad aspects in human interactions and expressions. The core guidance is to learn how to preserve own integrity and inner calm under controlled stress-induced events while being engaged through playfully confrontational interactions. The embodiment of principles of non-resistance and non-violence is at the top of all achievements for allowing flow to be embodied, returning thus to our original state of being.
Topics we will approach
- efficiency vs effectiveness
- kinetic power vs internal power
- physical contact vs connectedness
- intention vs intent
- principles of non-resistance and effortlessness
- fight vs play
- gravity practice
- falling as a state of being
