New Year retreat

A self-empowering physical practice that weaves together cooperative qualities of any type pf partner dance with highly refined confrontational principles from internal martial arts. The exploration goes beyond the fringes of mere physicality. The reciprocal mirroring through the physical drills leads the practice into a deep space of self-discovery, for acknowledging and revealing myriad aspects in human interactions and expressions. The core guidance is to learn how to preserve own integrity and inner calm under controlled stress-induced events while being engaged through playfully confrontational interactions. The embodiment of principles of non-resistance and non-violence is at the top of all achievements for allowing flow to be embodied, returning thus to our original state of being.

If you have never experienced Play-Fight by FormlessArts, please tell us briefly about your background of movement experiences and motivation to join
Her background of experiences and interests mainly interconnects intensive training in contemporary dance and floor-work during the studies at Trinity Laban (London), contact improvisation, instant composition, community dance, with her later formation into yoga, postural and somatic practices. She met Bruno Caverna in 2014, first through Liquid Body and Becoming Animal, eventually through the later development of what is now named Play-Fight practice by Formless Arts; a mind-blowing encounter which since then has been at the foundation of her journey, in life and profession.
Ester currently collaborates at the core of Formless Arts Organization and work as Play-Fight Facilitator in Europe, while teaching regular movement classes in Bologna (Italy) where she is based. At the moment she is also deepening her research in the line between Play-Fight & Contact Improvisation and integrating her important experience in the Yoga panorama within Formless Arts activities, connecting the approach from the very essence of Formless Arts philosophy.
The process will be guided by the Facilitators: Ester Braga, Francesca Romano & Miriam Costa
She started her studies in dance and movement when she was a child. Over the years she went through Artistic Gymnastics, modern and contemporary dance, contact improvisation, dance theatre, performing arts studying and working with many dancers and movement researchers. In 2005 she graduated at the School of Drama Paolo Grassi (Milan).

She works as a dance and movement teacher, performer and choreographer. Since 2013 she has expanded her research approaching yoga and martial arts having so far a deeper experience and knowledge about connection between body, mind and inner space. This movement field was a point of revolution for her studies and she started to follow this path, researching more and more what's beyond definitions, trying to always be in a state of openness typical of the "beginner mind". It was in 2015 that she approached the work of Bruno Caverna during a Play-Fight workshop. From that moment she started to follow this practice constantly, finding in its tools important points of inspiration, new ways to approach movement and life, new ways to connect with the others and herself. As member of Formless Arts team she supports the realization of specific projects and works as Play-Fight facilitator.
My approach to the study of the body started from the passion for dance, from the need to express myself through alternative languages, and therefore from the study of dance theater, floor-work, release technique, together with the experimentation of physical theater, various types of dance and different somatic practices.
Through the intense path of internal investigation coming from the Liquid Body technique, but above all from Bruno Caverna's Play-Fight, I was able to look into the depth and richness of bodily intelligence with more precision, which supported me in working on other aspects of the being, of which we are all composed.
I feel the need to cultivate the humility of internal work, to transmit the possibility of undertaking a new dialogue with oneself, capable of making organic and healthy approaches to the self, through the fundamental relationship with the other, the diverse and the limits. Surprise and curiosity continue to nourish my research, both as an artist and as a teacher, but first and foremost as a human being, body. In this way, I return more responsibly and fluidly to dance.
